Tropical Storm Franklin

The ship receives customized daily weather updates from the Navy based on our position and intended track. For the past few days we have been anticipating a change from calm to five to seven ft seas as we track North. Today we received warning that if we continued our transect at the current rate, we might intersect Tropical Storm Franklin and encounter 40 knot winds with gusts up to 50 knots.
Tropical Storm Franklin's projected path

Since these conditions aren’t conducive for scientific deployments, we decided to break from the transect and stay in this area until the morning to re-evaluate. We will use this time to perform additional acoustic deployments and test equipment.

Rest assured we will be out of harms way and hopefully back on track tomorrow!
